Let's learn how to make oreo pops! We have a "heat your oreo" hack for you, that will absolutely change the game and give you CONFIDENCE to try this yourself!

What you'll need:

INSERTING THE ACRYLIC POPSICLE STICK

This is NOT EASY and many will teach you to separate the oreo cookie, then dab the popsicle stick in warm chocolate, place it in the center and reattach to set. While this technique does work, it's difficult to get right PLUS it makes the cookie much more bulky in our opinion.

Instead try Ed's technique by warming up the cookie for 15 seconds and then insert the popsicle stick gently through the bottom center. No need to separate the cookie halves! This was SO simple and made making Oreo Pops that much more enjoyable!

APPLYING LUSTER DUST TO CHOCOLATE

In the video above, we teach you how to use THE COLOR SOLUTION (click here) as a binder for your luster dust. The reason this is a revolutionary way of using luster dust is because many struggle with achieving that perfect paint consistency! Also, many pre-made metallic paints have a very strong taste to them ... but Ed's Color Solution has an incredible vanilla flavor, which has ALSO made it a HUGE success!

When applying Color Solution FIRST, you will achieve a metallic / shiny look to your chocolate that you've NEVER seen before! It is such a great way to apply luster dust to chocolate!

And for those wandering ...

WHAT IS LUSTER DUST?

Luster Dust is a food color that contains a natural mineral named mica. It is a shiny / metallic powder food color that is used to make incredible metallic paints for cookies, cakes, chocolate - you name it! It was originally introduced to the United States in the early 2000's and pioneered by several award winning cake artists (including Ed Frys' mother and Founder, Elzbieta Frys). However with all the different companies popping up in this industry, there were "non-toxic" variations of luster dust and some non-edible versions as well (aka. highlighter).

The Sugar Art's Founder helped pioneer and pushed the industry to only use products that are approved for food use, and to reject products that are unregulated and may contain harmful ingredients. There have been multiple FDA recalls on these types of products from containing led, arsenic and other heavy metals.

This is why it is of the utmost importance to understand what products are FDA Compliant prior to using them on your confections for re-sell. It is also important to understand that The United States Food and Drug Administration has the most strict guidelines in regards to these products as well.

As proud USA manufacturers for over 3 decades, you can be CONFIDENT when shopping The Sugar Art's Luster Dust and Edible Glitter!

IS LUSTER DUST EDIBLE?

If it's made by The Sugar Art, the answer is YES! But not all luster dusts follow the strict guidelines set forth by the Food and Drug Administration, so it is important to do your due diligence when selecting luster dusts for your confections! Highlighter, for example, is not edible. It should never be consumed, but unfortunately many still use it to this day on their cookies, cakes and chocolate treats. It's not a good idea to do so, however, as the FDA has cracked down on even home bakeries who use Highlighter directly on the parts of their confection that will be consumed.

When trying to determine if a luster dust is edible, it should contain these 3 items on the product listing / label:

  1. List of ingredients
  2. Lot #
  3. Expiration Date

If any (or all) are missing from the product label, then it is safe to assume it is not intended for consumption. When shopping luster dust online, it should provide the detailed ingredient list. Lot #'s and Expiration Dates will vary based on the date of manufacturing, and they are required to be printed on the label itself.

If a product states "non-toxic" you should still reach out to the company selling it or the manufacturer and request all 3 items above. If they do not provide it, then it's safe to assume it should not be consumed.

Best practice is to shop FDA COMPLIANT luster dusts, and you can find our incredible luster dust collection at this link (scroll down product listings for full list of ingredients):
