Tis the season for a Christmas Hot Cocoa Bomb! Let's make one together, shall we?
Now this tutorial includes a mold from a craft store we purchased many years ago. Unfortunately, we are unable to locate a mold similar to it - but you can use the same techniques in this tutorial on all of your Christmas hot cocoa bomb projects!
Today we will show you the VIBRANCY of our Chocolate Colors, ChocElites. The red is truly special and will help you reach that perfect Christmas red for white chocolate! We will also discuss how to paint on chocolate, both with edible matte paints and edible luster dust. The Color Solution is our star, as usual, and makes the most amazing edible paints you will ever use.
So let's get started making our Christmas Hot Cocoa Bomb!
Tools needed:
- Round silicone mold, half circles
- White chocolate or almond bark
- Cocoa Powder
- Small marshmallows
- Ruby Red Choc Elite - Chocolate Color (click here)
- Wedding Gold Luster Dust (click here)
- Turkish Black Paint Powder (click here)
- Color Solution (click here)
- Paint Brush Set (click here)
- Paint Brush Holder (click here)
- Below is a simple Hot Cocoa Bomb Mold we sell here, however, it is not the same mold used in this video. It does not contain the Santa belt detail. The mold in this video was purchased at a craft store many years ago, we are unable to locate it for purchase.
- However, you can use our techniques in this video to paint Santa belts on a Christmas hot cocoa bomb.

COLOR YOUR CHOCOLATE & POUR IN THE MOLD
Pour your melted white chocolate (after you color it - see demo below of using Ruby Red Choc Elite) into the mold and then do one of two things: use a a small plastic cake tool or paint brush, to get the chocolate all around the edge of the mold. OR gently move your mold around in small circular motions, until the chocolate covers the entire area.
DEMOLD THE COCOA BOMB
Let the chocolate fully set up before de-molding, it should be dry to the touch in all areas! We recommend waiting at least an hour before attempting to de-mold. Once completely dry, peel back the silicone away from your shell. Go slow, so the chocolate does not crack and don't get discouraged if it does! It takes a couple of tries to get used to it - especially if this is your first time making hot cocoa bombs!
ADD THE GOODIES!
Fill the first Christmas hot cocoa bomb shell with all of your goodies! Cocoa powder and mini marshmallows!
PUT THE TWO PIECES TOGETHER
Take your second hot cocoa bomb shell and using a warm skillet or hot plate, quickly place down (edge first) to warm the edge of your cocoa bomb and then gently align / attach to the first shell! You need one shell to have warm edges, so you can put together the two sides and make your cocoa bomb!
DUST THE GOLD BUCKLE
Dust the gold buckle of Santa's Belt with Wedding Gold Luster Dust! To do this, you will want to FIRST paint the Color Solution straight on the buckle, let it dry for 2 mins. Then go back and gently dry dust small amounts of Wedding Gold! The Color Solution will help this to adhere incredibly well and it is the BEST way to apply luster dust to chocolate - see additional Tutorial Here (click here).
Then create your edible paint with Turkish Black Painting Powder and, The Color Solution. You will want an acrylic like consistency in the paint palette and you will be amazed to see just how much coverage you get with one layer! We always apply 2 layers, just to ensure it is all covered up.
CREATE EDIBLE PAINT FOR THE BELT
Create an edible paint using Turkish Black Paint Powder and The Color Solution. Our Turkish Black Edible Paint Powder is truly remarkable, the coverage is amazing once added with Color Solution!
Creating the perfect consistency is KEY when painting onto any confection. You want to start with a very small amount of Elite Powder and add The Color Solution drop by drop, until you achieve the perfect painting consistency. It will remind you of acrylic paint! The amazing perk to using Color Solution instead of alcohol for confectionary painting are the gums inside of it ... it gives you a MUCH LONGER working time than straight vodka or ever clear. However, all you have to do is keep adding small drops of Color Solution if the paint begins to dry too much during your process.
Once you have the perfect painting consistency, simply begin painting ... you will find the smoothest finish with Elite Colors and Color Solution. It will take 3-5 minutes for it to fully dry on your confection, but once it is dry - the Color Solution locks in! Now keep in mind, chocolate is a fat-based medium - so if you or your customers touch it, it absolutely can rub off. Be sure to handle with care any chocolate pieces you paint.
You will be amazed how good the coverage is when painting onto your chocolate!
